About WAPVI

WAPVI was founded in 1913. Among our accomplishments are:

  • Established classes for people who are blind to learn Braille and other skills
  • Opened the first school for the blind in B.C.
  • Opened the first residence for people who are blind in B.C.
  • Spearheaded the Fun and Fitness program with classes held at CNIB
  • Organizes the Friendship Club where members meet for lunch once a month
  • Runs the Visually Impaired Persons Electronic Resource )VIPER) which started out as a bulletin board system and has now evolved into a low-cost internet service with a well-designed website
  • Administers a successful computer loan bank program, enabling many people who are blind and visually-impaired and unable to afford to purchase a computer with adaptive equipment to rent a complete computer system for a very nominal monthly fee.
